Block Exemption
In the 1990's there was an investigation into Cartels, restrictive practices and anti-competition tactics by major manufacturers in many types of business. The law was subsequently changed to prevent these practices and open up the market.
The motor industry was given a temporary reprieve from these new laws - this is known as the Block Exemption.
In October 2003 this exemption was lifted despite strenuous lobbying by the motor industry.
Your Manufacturer's Warranty
The outcome of this is that your car can be serviced wherever you choose, as long as the manufacturer's recommendations are followed. Even if you do not use a main dealer the manufacturer's or used car warranty cannot be invalidated.
Don't Believe Anything Different!
